A community-wide church service is held each year in Wiley Park. So bring your lawn chairs and arrive by 10:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of every July to hear a message presented by one of our city churches. If it happens to be raining, the service will be held at the First Baptist Church, right across from the park.
Garden Tractor Pull - Hosted at the River Valley Cooperative site, this perennial favorite occurs this year on Thursday, July 3rd at The Memorial Track on the River Valley Cooperative site (see our directions page if your are unfamiliar with the location). Sign-in time is 6:00 p.m. and the competition begins at 7:00 p.m. If it is raining, the competition will be held after the parade on July 4th at 5:00 p.m.. Pork Chop Sandwich Dinner - Sponsored by the Messiah Lutheran Church, this event is always held the day before The Main Event in Wiley Park. The menu will consist of three item: (1) A beverage, (2) A butterfly pork chop sandwich, and (3) Desert - consisting of ice cream with pie or cake. Three items for the 3rd of July. Hooray!
Beer Garden - Always on the 3rd, and always at Old City Hall, located at 210 Front Street (see our directions page for the location). Featuring cold beer, live entertainment and the ever popular 50/50 raffle, this event starts at 8:00 p.m. and winds up sometime after midnight. Don't forget to bring your wallet, because although the entertainment is free, there is a $5.00 cover charge, and beverages can only be had by anteing up some cash. This year's entertainment will be provided by the Cody Calkins Band.
Pancake Breakfast - the Main Event kicks off with a 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. pancake breakfast in Wiley Park. Sponsored by the Galva Lions Club, this event prepares you for a fun-filled day.
Fun Run - this one-half mile fun run around Wiley Park is for children ages 10 and under. There is a $1.00 entry fee and all runners receive a ribbon for their participation; plus, the winner gets to be the official starter for the 5K. Registration for the Run starts at 7:00 a.m. and the runners will be off at 7:30 a.m., so haul the little ones up to the main pavilion in Wiley Park and don't forget those running shoes.
5K Run/Walk - this challenging 3.1 mile course that begins and ends at Wiley Park covers city streets and country roads. Splits are given at each mile marker and refreshments are provided at the finish line. Clock and Chronomix at the start and finish lines. Runners will be separated into eleven (11) age divisions. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, including new for this year: Best Patriotic Costume! Get pre-registered for this event and save some dough. Registration at the Wiley Park Pavilion begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:45 a.m. Runners will be off promptly at 8:00 a.m., so don't be late!
Antique Tractor Show - bring your prized antique tractors to the west side of Wiley park and line them up for this uniquely satisfying display of hardware. The show starts at 8:00 a.m. and wraps up around 10:00 a.m., so those that want to display their pride and joy to the entire community can begin to line up their tractors in the parade.
Petting Zoo - a real treat for the little ones, the petting zoo is sponsored by Galva's award winning 4H club and the critters will occupy Wiley Park from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Softball Tournament - held at the Galva Park District, this tournament requires a $100.00 entry fee per team. Play begins at 9:00 a.m., and all proceeds go to charity.
Art Jam Blacktop Painting - sponsored by the Galva Arts Council and Dick Blick, a 4' X 6' space at the Wiley Park basketball court will be reserved for all budding and accomplished artists for the paltry sum of $5.00. The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and wraps up at 3:00 p.m.
FFA Cow Bingo - never played cow bingo before? Well, now is your chance. You can purchase your $2.00 tickets at the High School or on the day of the Event at Wiley Park. And yes, pardner, that is a real live cow.
Kids Games - looking to exercise the little ones? Bring them to Wiley Park because the games begin at 9:00 a.m. with a gunny sack race followed by the ever popular (and screamingly hilarious) penny scramble. The funny sack (er, gunny sack) race is for those kids between the ages of (6) to ten (10); the penny scramble includes toddlers all the way up to the ripe old age of eight (8). This event, sponsored by The State Bank of Toulon is absolutely free to all participants.
Photography Show & Viewing - sponsored by the Galva Arts Council, the photography show begins at 9:30 a.m. and continues until 4:00 p.m. A reception and awards ceremony for best photographs begins at 11:00 a.m. Naturally, the event is held in the Galva Arts Council building located in downtown Galva.
Parade Line - if you are in the parade, start lining up at 10:00. Volunteers will be on hand at the Galva High School to ensure that you are in the proper sequence. You can obtain a parade entry form here, at City Hall, or from the Contact Info page.
Lunch - a tasty lunch will be available in Wiley Park. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., so find your way to the Wiley Park pavilion and enjoy!
Parade Kick-off - the parade starts noon, so make sure you have secured a good seat!
Entertainment - there is always a band in Wiley Park from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Last year the crowd was entertained by the Edwards River Boys. This year? Stay tuned.
Talent Show - bring you blanket and lawn chair for the 4:00 p.m. start of the Freedom Fest talent show held each year in Wiley Park. Winners and prizes will be announced right after the show. More Entertainment - at 6:00 p.m. it is time to find your way to the Galva Park District for an early evening to dusk performance by a fine band. This year, the Committee has booked Joker's Wild, a classic rock band from neighboring Kewanee. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and a little pocket money because our food vendors will be making funnel cakes, hot dogs, cotton candy and much, much more.
Posting of the Colors - the Galva American Legion will post the colors in the Galva Park District promptly at 7:00 p.m. Remove your hats and put your hands over your hearts, because this is what the day is all about.
FIREWORKS - come see the breathtaking display of fireworks ignited by the internationally acclaimed Melrose Pyrotechnics. The preferred fireworks company for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and many other sports teams around the nation, Melrose Pyrotechnics has won critical acclaim from around the world with several gold medal wins in international fireworks competitions. This, you will not want to miss!

More On 34 Sale - the Freedom Fest Committee hosts a flea market in Wiley Park during the More On 34 Yard Sale. Vendor spaces may be purchased for the Wiley Park Flea Market by filing out and returning the the Registration Form. This year the Flea Market will be held on Saturday, 15 June, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. unitl 3:00 pm. Food will be available in the Wiley Park Pavilion.
Annual Car Show - the annual car show is held the second Saturday in August each year in beautiful, shady, Wiley Park. You can pre-register, or register at the event. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at noon. Judging commences at noon and awards are presented at 3:30 p.m. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 entries and trophies awarded to first, second and third places for:

Little Mr. and Miss. Christmas - all boys and girls in PreK through first (1st) grade are invited to participate in the Ol' Fashioned Christmas Little Mr. and Little Miss. contest. To enter, parents must fill out the contest form and deliver three (3) recent 5" x 7" photographs to Galva City Hall or the Galva Pharmacy. The contest is restricted to Galva residents/students only, and is limited to the first five boys and the first five girls to get heir entry paperwork in to City Hall or the Pharmacy.
Thanksgiving Bake Sale - hosted by the Galva Freedom Fest Committee, our annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale occurs each year right before Thanksgiving in the lobby of the State Bank of Toulon, conveniently located right downtown at 112 Exchange Street. Yes, our bakers will do the hard work for you, so make sure you stop in for pies, rolls, home made bread (you can smell that right now, can't you?), and other mouthwatering goodies.
